Hornet Account Privacy and Security

It is common for hackers and scammers to try to get access to your online accounts. Hornet does everything it can to prevent these attacks from happening. Security and safety are our main priorities. Many companies have been hacked and their user data stolen and published on the “dark web”. One thing we are proud of at Hornet is that our user data has never been compromised!

However, if your bank, supermarket, or fitness app was hacked, then your data could be out there on the dark web, being used by scammers. If you regularly use the same password between different accounts, then they could have access to your Hornet account. You can check if your data is on the dark web on this website. If you find your data has been published on the dark web, you should immediately change all of your passwords, including your Hornet password.

Hackers are smart folks. They can easily write a computer program that will try tens of thousands of passwords every second. So, if your password is “password” then you will likely get hacked again. The good news is that you have control over this! The one incredibly easy step you can take to stop the hackers is to have a Secure Password.

A secure password is made of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols – all in random order. A good example of a secure password is (do not use them!):

  • {7!Qb_8$LS8e7@AiX22%
  • JpL9$6xjujB[qsVt

If you find them difficult to remember, you can use a password manager. They are readily available online and are often free to use. Choose the trusted one, for example, Google or Apple Password Managers.

Some more tips on how to keep your Hornet account secure:

  • It is not recommended to use the same password across multiple accounts, especially if they can give access to your sensitive information or bank account. Use a unique password for your Hornet account.
  • Regularly change your password, and always use a completely new password that wasn’t used before on Hornet or any other platform.
  • As an extra measure, set a PIN code or use Face ID for accessing your Hornet profile – this way you make it more difficult for someone to access your Hornet account.
  • In case you use Google or Apple ID to log in to Hornet, make sure that those accounts are secure. If someone gets access to your Google or Apple ID they may get access to all the apps using this login method, including Hornet.

Important rule that would help to keep your account secure – Think before you click. Each day, bad actors send phishing emails and messages pretending to be from individuals or entities that you may know or trust. Be reluctant to click on an external link you may receive via email or in chat – one wrong click may expose you to identity theft, or install malware on your device. This is how your highly sensitive information, including credit card numbers and passwords, may get leaked. You can read more about this type of scam in this article.
